The Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is having a free live Q and A to help active families understand the risk factors of sudden heart failure in student athletes. During this live event, our co-hosts, Jeffrey Towbin, MD, and John Lynn Jefferies, MD, will answer questions from you and other families to help you learn the connection between genetics and sudden cardiac arrest in student athletes.
DID YOU KNOW?
If defibrillation is administered within one minute of collapse, the survival rate for sudden heart failure goes up 90 percent.
“Timing is key to survival. Waiting even 10 minutes to defibrillate drops the chances of survival to 10 percent.” – John Lynn Jefferies, MD.
This is a free, live, on-line Q and A where you can ask questions in real time. It’s a chance to talk to knowledgeable and experienced doctors and get answers right on the spot. The Q and A takes place April 9th from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. EST with Jeffrey Towbin, MD and John Lynn Jefferies, MD. RSVP here!
We would love for as many people as possible to benefit from this. Please feel free to help spread the word!
This is an important issue many people don’t think about. I remember this happening to a guy I went to school with.

Definitely something to think about! I think my State actually passed legislation in efforts to get defibrillators in our schools.

They have so many ways that people can have defibrillatiors on hand for this kind on hand, it should be mandatory for schools/coaches to be trained for this.

Not sure I’d be able to attend but I sure would love too since I do have a question. It wasn’t until after my brother passed away at 18 with unknown cause of death and them about 5 years late, my sisters heart stopped a few times and they have to shock her back and she has a defibrillator now along with many others in our family. We were then told that most likely, it was the cause of my 18 year old brother passing. Her problem, Brugada Syndrome which many doctors still do not know about. In the case they pass, Brugada Syndrome cannot be found, only if you’re still alive. I have to wonder how many others this could affect. My sister has 2 of her children with it, my brother has 2 of his and I was fortunate enough to not have it and my children have been ok. Had my sister not made it, we still would not know about this.
