If I haven’t mentioned it before, this is G’s first year being a Girl Scout. This past weekend her troop took a trip to the Air & Space Museum – Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Since I volunteer to help with her troop, I also got to go. Neither of us had been before and it was great to be able to experience it for the first time together. Here are some pics of some of the awesome things we saw…
When we saw the space shuttle from the other side, we noticed that the flag on that side was reversed…
Do you know why it’s reversed? We sure didn’t. We found out that the reason for this is because the regulation for displaying the United States flag on a national vehicle states that the star field must be positioned at the nose cone end of the shuttle. It makes it look as if the flag were “flying” along the side of the ship and this makes the flag appear as though it’s backwards on one side of the shuttle.
Such a fun way to spend an afternoon!
How cool, I would love to visit someday and see the shuttle up close. Thanks for sharing!

I loved going there. I only wish my son was older when we did go. He was 8 months old. He LOVES planes and especially rockets now that he is 6. Great photos!

That looks like a fantastic place to visit. Did the girls get a special guided tour? I always enjoy the people at work at places like that. They are usually so passionate about their subject.
Oh, and I never knew about the flag. It makes sense now that you’ve explained it, but I don’t think I could have ever figured out that reasoning without help.
